After the phenomenal success of Pyaar ke side effects, Pritish Nandi Communications presents another offbeat romantic comedy - “Ugly aur Pagli”. We haven’t seen much of Mallika (I mean in movies ) ever since Pyaar ke… and this is her first one in 2008.

Ranvir Shorey has been on a high and has been much praised for his recent roles, whether it was the sidekick in Bheja Fry or the struggling actor/gangster in Mithya. Whatever roles have come his way, he has made sure to give his best shot. Sachin Khot makes his comeback to India after directing serials for local channels in Jakarta for 10 years, away from the homeland.

Ugly aur Pagli is a mad mad love story. Ranvir plays Kabir aka ugly (the name fits him to the T), who has been trying to complete engineering for 10 years (now I would like to know which university allows 10 years for completing engineering, and who hires these engineers? ). As I said its a mad story. On the other hand there is Kuhu, aka Pagli portrayed by Mallika. Whoever said the devil has to be a male with two horns and those protruding teeth ready to dig into your neck, is wrong. The devil could be a hot, ravishing dame who could chew your brains through her gimmicks and Kuhu manages that well as Pagli, the ‘devil’. They meet at the V.T. station where Kabir offers a helping hand to the totally drunk Kuhu . And then he never helps anyone else, as he has to beg others for help after Pagli turns his life upside down.

What follows is a laugh riot, with cheek smacking slaps, some 99 of them (those of you, who are good at math, could verify the fact) and one trademark Mallika kiss (now the mystery is how many retakes did Ranvir do this scene, oops sorry Konkana). From wearing high heeled ladies shoes to riding bicycles without seats, Ranvir does it all for the love of Pagli. Now we pray all that hard work pays off and the movie has a successful run at the Box Office.
