IPL and Euro cup sizzled the summers, now it’s back to the original entertainers. Apna Bollywood!

The big banners prepare for the upcoming season. And at the pole position are two movies launching the careers of two more kin of the Bollywood production families. Namely Aamir Khan productions and Baweja Movies. While Aamir Khan is launching the career of his nephew Imran Khan through Jaane Tu … ya jaane na a vibrant youth romance, Bawejas launch their son Harman in the sci-fi movie Love Story 2050.

After a forgettable 2007, Priyanka Chopra stars opposite Harman Baweja (I am not saying anything but everyone says he looks like Hrithik), a promising debutant and son of director Harry Baweja. Love Story 2050 fast forwards to the city of Mumbai in the year 2050. With services of Academy award winning firms for special effects and a mega budget this film is the magical love story of two opposites Karan (Harman) who doesn’t respect the rules and Sana (Priyanka) who lives by rules. Boman Irani playing a scientist Dr. Yatinder Khanna who is also Karan’s uncle, develops a time machine. The story revolves around how Sana’s wish of visiting Mumbai city of 2050 comes true and Karan’s travel through time to get his love Sana back from the future from the clutches of villain Dr. Hoshi. Assisting the Love story are artificial “factors” - ‘QT’ a femme robot and a robotic teddy bear ‘Boo’. Harry Baweja directs his son in this futuristic Love Story.

Imran Khan, aka Aamir Khan’s nephew also makes his debut on the 4th of July opposite a still relatively unknown face (after a couple of movies in bollywood) of Genelia D’Souza. This 20 year old lass is the winner of many a awards for commendable roles in Telugu and Tamil movies including Filmfare best actress award 2006, for her role in Telugu movie Bommarillu. This might be her ticket to stardom in Bollywood. Jaane Tu.. is a sweet college kind of romance where Jai( Imran Khan) and Aditi’s (Genelia) love story is being retold at the airport. It takes the audience through the light moments and romantic fights between Aditi and Jai, Love triangles and all sorts of memorable moments in the youth life. The songs are already topping the charts and this movie is surely ready to top the Box office collections as well. It has been promoted well by the Aamir Khan camp and even pulled back Mansoor Khan from semi retirement to co-produce the film. Incidentally, Mansoor Khan had launched Aamir Khan in Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikander way back in 1992 and the rest as they is history!

Yet again in the history of Aamir Khan Productions comes the clash of release dates. First it was Lagaan v/s Gadar in 2001, TZP v/sWelcome in 2007 and now in 2008 the showdown is between JTYJN and LS2050 . Whether Imran can follow in uncle Aamir’s footsteps and create the magic, time alone will tell.

The industry is still waiting for that elusive Super Hit trendsetter for the year 2008. The months ahead are lined up with potential hits. For now, its a wait for the 4th of July weekend to see who hits a home run first amongst these early birds. For once Harman would be wishing the time machine to be real to see the future of his debut movie at the Box Office. Until then Jaane Tu… ya jaane na!
