Anamika is the most intriguing romantic mystery of our time.

Anamika begins when Vikram Aditya Sisodia who owns Gajner Palace in Rajasthan comes down to Mumbai for an international convention with a proposal to convert his palace into a resort. He runs into the naive and nubile Jia Rao, an escort whom he falls in love with. But before he marries Jia, he reveals that it would be his second marriage and his first wife Anamika had died under unfortunate circumstances. When Jia lands up at the picturesque Lake Palace of Gajner, two things hit her… the size of the place and the comparisons she draws to the beautiful socialite first wife Anamika.

Driven by a complex, she sets out to transform herself into Anamika much to Vikram’s dismay… for it is not the kind of memory he preferred to revel in. And when Vikram’s brother-in-law, a state cop, accuses Vikram of having a hand in Anamika’s death, the mystery deepens.

Torn apart from Vikram, hounded by the memories of Anamika and wondering whether Vikram had actually killed his wife, Jia faces a dilemma of life, love and death. Her only confidante seems to be Malini, the governess of Gajner who is helping Vikram convert the palace into a resort. And then things start happening…

Anamika and Pranali: Two Off-Beat Movies this weekend..

Director: Hirdesh Kambe

Cast: Sudha Chandran, Deep Shikha, Vinay Apte, Upendra Limaye, Hemant Pandey, Suzanne Bernert, Rohini Kapoor, Raman Trikha

Synopsis: Pranali is the story of a girl born in a small village on the border of Karnataka & Maharashtra, a girl whose childhood is yet untouched and full of pure innocence but she still falls prey to one of the unconventional and downtrodden systems of our society; a stigma of being a “Devdasi”. She inadvertently becomes an object of desire – the one with whom the so-called highly respected and well-known people of the society could suffice their hunger for lust.

Condemned to prostitution, her destiny takes a much-awaited turn, when she decides to give birth to a new life which in turn gives her hope and adds zest to her life. This further redefines her morbid life with a new meaning, liberating her off all the shackles. She commits herself that she will fight all odds to educate her child and do everything possible that could make way for her child to lead a normal and best life.

However, the idea was not so easy to digest for the respectable people that a Sex worker’s child will be given an equivalent standard of education as being received by the children’s of the well-to-do people of the society. The film depicts the dark facts of Pranali’s life and unveils forbidden truths of known and so-called respectable people in the society. Along with grooming her own life, Pranali moulds the lives of other fallen women and gives a new definition and direction to their otherwise meaningless lives.
