Believe it or not, the only thing going for Jhoom Barabar Jhoom is Amitabh in his weird pirate costume. He dances every fifteen minutes or so in the first half and provides much needed entertainment breaks. What I really want to say is - the scenes that transpire in between those fifteen minutes, are anything but entertainment.
The first half drags on with nothing to show for the one and half hours that it lasts. The second half picks some pace, but that’s relatively speaking. In fact, the movie is so boring, that it bores me to write this review even. I could tell you the story, but there isn’t any. I could crib about everything else, but that’ll take me all day. I could wonder though, about who the director really is. Is it the same Shaad Ali who made the really meaningful Saathiya, and then gave us the really entertaining heist-flick Bunty aur Babli? Some of the scenes are straight out of Jaan-e-Maan for their absurd CGIs. But to be fair, Jaan-e-Mann was way better. And if I am comparing Jaan-e-Mann favourably, I’m sure you realize, how low I rate this film.
Finally I want to yell at YashRaj, for taking his audiences for granted! He puts together some scenes, calls it a movie and expects us to go watch? Alright, movies like Saathiya and DDLJ don’t happen everyday, but we’re okay with masala-potboilers like Dhoom and Bunty aur Babli. But puh-lease folks, Jhoom Barabar Jhoom is downright B-grade, if not for the star-names associated with it!

Hi Anagha,
I agree with you completely except for one fact.
Amitabh was the worst thing in movie.
He was pathetic!
Don’t know why he was there!

What a B-O-R-E !!! .. I got a terrible headache after watchin the movie… what a waste of resources and acting abilities of abhishek bobby and Just pretty looking preeti and lara, No ways could preeti portray a paki girl… music was good.. atleast some relief..however Mr. Bachchan looked dashing in his new outfit,, i just wonder how he manages to look and remain fit.

I second that Ajit, It really is the worst movie i have ever seen, like seriously what the hell is happening to Indian cinema, that even such a prestigeous name like the Yash raj banner can produce absolute crap. i hate to admitt it but bollywood is going down the drain.

One thing I hated about this movie. Amitabh Bachchan. He looked good in that getup, else … he was irritating, playing a double fret-board guitar when the music is something like that of an accordian (the opening tunes bring back memories of the 70s cinema). Of course, the director is to be blamed for that.
I enjoyed the movie, and can watch it several times. Im not surprised with the negative reviews. Audiences have become so used to loud humor and rapid fire dialouge delivery from the likes of Akshay Kumar (who emotes as if something’s stuck up his ass - for every emotion a human being can ever experience), Paresh Rawal, Johney Lever, Anupam Kher, and so many others.
What I think the makers of JBJ tried to create was a narrative, which is not in a hurry to reach “Intermission” and “The End”. And they succeeded. Only todays audiences are programmed to fast-paced masala.
I enjoyed all four of em, and loved Lara in every bit. They were natural. Preity and Abhishek are like Shah Rukh Khan. You can enjoy them in any setting. And Bobby was really good, especially the nail-biting and his submissions. Aggressive roles which he plays dont really suit him.
Not to forget to mention the songs and costumes. The title song is repeated with new lyrics each time, with varying compositions, unlike monotonous remixes in other films. I find myself keep humming “Bol na Halke” and “Kiss of Love” often.
Too bad that the effort on JBJs got no takers. Id give it 4 stars.
