Bheja fry for your heart

April 18th, 2007 · Add your comment

There is a certain category of off-beat movies that end up surprising the entire industry and movie-going public. Bheja Fry falls squarely in the category. Last weekend (April 13th) Bheja Fry performed incredibly and kept the box-office cash registers ringing. I would dare not label this category as a niche, the metro audience lapped up the movie greedily while ignoring some of the bigger movies playing alongside.

In response to the audience’s choice - most multiplexes here in Pune have increased the number of shows playing the movie since last weekend. Bheja Fry is not alone, other smaller budget films have attracted the increasingly eclectic movie-goer. It is becoming harder and harder for anyone to predict what will run and what will bomb.

Select, unconventional hollywood movies have also hit the sweet spot. The Pursuit of Happyness is one such movie that won over audiences and continues to play into what seems like its fifth week in E-Square.

This weekend we have a bunch of new movies playing - Mr. Beans’ Holiday (Rowan Atkinson), Panga Na Lo (Satish Shah, Om Puri) and TMNT (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles).

As biggies bomb, it’s time for some Bheja Fry - Financial Express.

Without Giving The Movie Away - Bheja Fry.

Masand’s Verdict: Bheja Fry.
